Lance Mountain was born to British citizens Ronald VJ and Patricia in Pasadena, CA, June 1964. His love of skateboarding began in 1975, when his friend Enrique Esparza gave him his used board. Shortly after, Lance
- updated to urethane wheels from clay and bought his first skateboard magazine.
The skateboard magazines played a big part in molding Lance. The early photos of Tony Alva, Jay Adams, Stacy Peralta, inspired
- Lance and his friends to search out backyard pools, build a backyard half-pipe and venture to skate parks. From 1976-1980, they would go where ever they could skate; in Montebello, Glendora, Upland, Lakewood,
- Marina; which lead into working and skating for the "Skate City" Whittier Team, entering A.S.P.O. contests between skate parks in So. CA.
In 1981, Lance joined the Variflex Team as an amateur and toured the USA
- with Steve Hirsch, Eric Grisham, Freddie DeSoto and Allen Losi. Soon after, skateboarding took a sad turn as the parks closed and the industry could not support the skaters. Many great pros had to move on to support
- themselves and the young kids turned pro, filling in the gap, Lance was one of these young skaters.
In 1983, skateboarding started to take a turn for the better and Lance signed with Powell Peralta. That same year,
- he married his wife, Yvette, and they had a son, Lance Ronald Cyril.
Things were definitely looking up for Lance. He rode for Powell Peralta for 9 years, working with Stacy and Craig. He was in the first skate videos,
- which showed him touring, winning a pool contest and the notorious Combi, a ramp contest in Tahoe and a street contest in Munster Germany.
Then, in 1991, the industry once again went through a major change and
- Lance started the Firm. He ran it out of his house for 9 years, followed by another 6 years at Blitz Distribution. Through the Firm, he sponsored some of the greatest skaters of all time; Ray Barbee, Joe Gruber, Keith
- Gruber, Weston Correa, James Qua, Pat Brennen, Salman Agah, Matt Beach, Frank Gerwer, Bob Burnquist, Rodrigo TX, Javier Sarmiento, John White, Bennie, Jared Herman, Alexis Sablone, Mike Chin, Jani Laitiala,
- Billy Marks, Wieger, Stiggy, Tom Jones, Dave Metty, Kyle Reynolds, Anthony Claraval, Jon Humphries, Kurt Hayashi and Brian Brannon.
After owning the Firm for 15 years, Lance, 42, was asked to skate and be a team
- rider for Flip. It was an honor to be asked to represent Flip and an opportunity he was not going to pass up. Lance, along with Bob Burnquist and Rodrigo TX, from the Firm team, would stay together making Flip, even
- more of a dominate force in 2006 and on into 2008. Skating is, as it has always been, an excuse to be immature. Lance's hope and goal is to walk with the Lord Jesus Christ and inspire others as he was. There will be more
- to come.
